The buy-now effect suggests that you are actually more likely to buy the perfume because you just read the word “bye”. It is likely that the magazine strategically placed the perfume advertisement right after the letter from the editor, in order to have the word “bye” prime readers to shift their mind to the purchasing associations of the word “buy”. Although it is unlikely that we would consciously draw the connection between the two, the bye-now effect shows that we quite drastically change our consumption behavior based on priming words.
Confirmation Bias:

The contextual variability account and the inadequate processing account are two of the more well-known ones.The contextual variability account explains how we are more likely to contextualize and encode information differently each time when repetition occurs more frequently. It can be simpler for us to recall the knowledge since we have developed various associations with it.
According to the theory of inadequate processing, the lag effect happens because we do a worse job of encoding information after recent exposure. This might be because when something is repeated right away versus after a lag, we pay less attention.
Example 1: Long-term recall is more affected by the lag effect.
In order to organize their time most efficiently and repeat content at the ideal lag for the best exam results, teachers need to be aware of the lag effect. When a test is taken much later, the greater the gap between study sessions, the better the exam results. If material needs to be remembered quickly, a one-day gap between repeating information to students may be ideal.
Example 2: Reduced attention may be to blame for the lag effect.
